Anxiety Treatment

Anxiety
Treatment

Anxiety disorders in the USA are the #1 mental health problem among women and are second to substance abuse among men.  Fear and anxiety are not the same.  Fear is what happens when you face a real threat. The response to fear is fight or flight.  Anxiety imagines a real threat and leads to a sense of doom and gloom.  Anxiety isn’t the sight of a storm.  It’s the certainty one is coming.  Anxiety is a joy thief.  It is the darkroom where negatives are developed.  You can’t relax, can’t let your guard down, you don’t laugh, sleep well or enjoy life.   Anxiety is a meteor shower of “what if’s” that twists us into emotional pretzels.  Anxiety visits all of us but allowing anxiety to move in and imprison us is optional.  But if anxiety has already moved into and taken residence in your life it’s time for an eviction notice. Dr. Pita would like nothing better than to help you serve those papers.  It’s what he does.  Send him a message on the provided contact form or give him a call at (469) 671-2145.  If you don’t get through leave a brief message.  He will respond promptly.

Should I Consider Therapy for Anxiety?

Therapy typically starts by identifying and gaining insight into the reasons for your anxiety.  Aggressively attacking anxiety symptoms so you can begin the process of managing and controlling them instead of them controlling you is a priority.  Some of the signs that indicate you should consider counseling for anxiety include:

  • You feel anxious when there is nothing to be anxious about
  • Are you easily irritated, agitated and restless
  • Difficult concentrating
  • Trouble falling or staying asleep
  • Panic attacks
  • Fear social situations
  • Struggle making decisions
  • Your mind is focused on an endless string of “what if’s”

What Happens During Therapy for Anxiety?

At Solutions Psychological Services we want to make sure you feel at ease with your therapist. Therapy is provided in a safe, secure setting.  In many cases, Dr. Pita makes use of both cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) and a more introspective approach to treatment.  This combination has proven effective in helping people understand how their thoughts, impact their feelings, and then their actions while giving insight and perspective on past and present relationships, and other internal psychological material that play a role in the creating and maintaining your anxiety.
