Should I Consider Therapy For Depression?
Feeling sad or having difficulty getting motivated can and probably will happen to all of us at some point. However, if these feelings are chronic or they prevent you from doing regular activities, like going to work, or doing the things you once enjoyed, you may want to consider counseling. Some of the indicators that you should seek counseling, include: sadness, irritability, agitation, diminished sleep, appetite and fatigue/energy loss, feelings of worthlessness, difficulty concentrating, attending and making decisions, crying spells, hopelessness, loss of interest in pleasurable activities, suicidal thoughts are all signs of depression. To be diagnosed at least 5 symptoms need to occur most of the time during the same two week period and significantly impact areas of your life such as home, school, or work. At Solutions we aim for symptom relief followed by an examination of the issues fueling the depression. Dr. Pita has found CBT, and supportive weekly therapy to be effective in alleviating depression. When warranted CBT in combination with anti-depressant medications has proven to be the most effective approach to addressing depression.
