What Happens During Outpatient Therapy for Sexual Behavior Problems?
Outpatient treatment for youth with sexual behavior problems with Dr. Pita involves working closely with the youth and his or her caretakers. When the court is involved we work with the probation officer and other involved professionals to create a comprehensive treatment approach. Treating youth with sexual behavior problems includes developing a comprehensive safety plan, parent training, and individual and family therapy. In some cases the use of polygraphs examinations and psychological testing is recommended. The process targets a number of areas for growth such as developing empathy, improving family communication, learning to identify and properly express emotions, and reestablishing damaged relationships. Youth with sexual behavior problems may themselves be the victims of abuse or trauma. In these cases treatment will involve helping the offender work through their own victimization. In cases where the victim is in the home, and the desire is to return the offending youth back into the home, the final stage of treatment would focus on reunification
Trauma Therapy for Victims of Abuse or Trauma
In addition to work with youth with sexual behavior problems, Dr. Pita provides treatment for the victims of sexual assault. This may involve trauma therapy, intervention for depressive thinking or suicidal ideations, and complex grief treatment.
